I practice sustainable architecture and I walk the talk – literally as I don’t own a car!  I like to feature wood in all of my small projects. Recently I designed a house for a couple on Haida Gawai, on a site surrounded by forest, and did considerable research on fire-resistant materials. I learned that cedar is fire-resistant and will char, instead of burn.

While timber is renewable, I am becoming increasingly concerned about the impact our changing climate is having on our forests i.e. forest fires, insect infestation and die-back  from drought (red cedar). I would like more information on sustainable forestry practices, including the protection of old-growth eco-systems.
